Vote at the Polls! Bring your ID. (back to top)
Tuesday, November 7, is Election Day in Ohio. A new Ohio law now requires voters to show identification at their polling locations.

Acceptable forms of ID include a current and valid photo ID; a military ID that shows a voter’s name and current address; or a copy of a utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or other government-issued document that shows the voter’s name and current address.

Voters without these forms of ID can still vote using a provisional ballot.

Acceptable forms of ID (back to top)

  • Current and valid photo ID
  • Military ID
  • Utility bill
  • Bank statement
  • Government check or paycheck

Vote Early! (back to top)
Beginning in October, you may choose to go directly to the Summit County Board of Elections, request an absentee voter application and fill it out on the spot!

Vote from Home! (back to top)
Any registered voter in Ohio can now enjoy the convenience of voting in the privacy of his/her own home. Simply complete the absentee voter application, and return it to the Summit County Board of Elections or any Akron public school as soon as possible. Drop off the application in person before the close of business on the Monday before Election Day. Mail-in applications must be received by noon on the Saturday before Election Day. Absentee applications will not be available on Election Day.

If a ballot is mailed to your home, complete the ballot and return it to the Summit County Board of Elections (470 N. Grant St., Akron, OH 44311) in person or by mail before Election Day. Faxed ballots are not accepted. Ballots dropped off at your polling location will not be counted.

Step 1.  Fill out the absentee voter application.
Step 2.  Double check you have filled out all required information (including signature).
Step 3.  Return the application to any Akron school or the Summit County Board of Elections (470 N. Grant St., Akron, OH 44311).

Please note: If you request an absentee voter application, you CANNOT vote at your polling location on Election Day.

Return Your Ballot (back to top)
If you mail your absentee voter ballot back to the Summit County Board of Elections, make sure to use enough postage ($.87 for one ballot and $1.11 for two people mailing together). Postage will be more than one first-class stamp, but we won’t know the amount until the ballots are printed.

You may also choose to drop your ballot off directly to the Summit County Board of Elections. Please note: You can hand-deliver your ballot to the Board of Elections (470 N. Grant St., Akron, OH 44311), but you cannot drop it off at your polling location.

Provisional Voting (back to top)
You can cast a ballot if your name is not on the Board of Elections record at the precinct where you vote, if you do not have I.D. and/or moved, or if you changed your name and did not update your voter registration.

Exercising your right to a provisional ballot should only be used when you are certain that you are at the right polling location and voting precinct. Before requesting a provisional ballot, make sure you:

  • are registered to vote;
  • brought your ID; and
  • are at the right polling location and voting precinct.

Before casting a provisional ballot, you will be required to complete a provisional affirmation statement. In order for the provisional ballot to be counted, voters must provide all required information, including the last four digits of the voter’s Social Security number or provide a valid ID to the Board of Elections within 10 days following the election.

If a voter does not know the last four digits of his/her Social Security number or does not nave a Social Security number, that voter can still cast a provisional ballot after signing an affirmation swearing to his/her identity.

Deadlines (back to top)
Absentee Ballot Application to Board of Election: November 4, 2006, Noon
Absentee Ballot to Board of Elections: November 7, 2006, 7:30 p.m.
